Oct 31, 2016 - Unable to remove license key from vCenter server 6.0 due to stale licensing entry in. Trying to assign the license on the host throws an error stating there is no enough. Basic Understanding on vCenter Appliance 5.x/6.x. Removing Evaluation License Key and Install License Key I installed a vcenter server using the evaluation key. Now that key is expired so I loaded our licensed key.

Licensing vCenter 6 with ESXi 5.5 -- question

Hey /r/vmware,

I'm attempting to get a vSphere Standard license from our internal VMware people for a VRTX we have. The four blades are running ESXi 5.5, and vCenter Server 6 on top of it. They're saying that they wouldn't be able to license vCenter because they can't get v6 licenses. But I thought ESXi and vCenter were packaged together as vSphere? So, would a vSphere 5.5 license cover vCenter 6? Or will I just have to flatten the existing instance and configure it with vCenter 5/5.5 so that we can use their license? I only used vCenter Server 6 due to lack of media and a tight config deadline; I didn't foresee licensing messiness.

How to apply ESXi Free license to ESXi host?

Once the installers are download. Complete the ESXi 6.0 installation or upgrade. Connect to your ESXi host using vSphere Client.
